Cloud Security Enables Customers to Move to Microsoft Azure !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted on

Cloud adoption is accelerating among heavily regulated industries like healthcare and banking, and enterprises are moving more mission-critical applications and sensitive data to the cloud.

Azure continues to release new cloud services at a rapid pace, it is also driving innovation in data protection, threat defense, network security, and identity and access management.Azure uses industry-leading capabilities, including recent enhancements to TLS/SSL cipher suites and Perfect Forward Secrecy, to encrypt content flowing over the internet between the customer and the Azure service.

A recent upgrade to its denial of service system, while unseen by customers, provides significantly enhanced protection for all customers. To ensure customers also have the right protections in place, Microsoft Antimalware is now generally available for Virtual Machines and Cloud Services, along with solutions from Symantec, Trend Micro, and McAfee. Security event logs can be collected from virtual machines for further analysis, and partners likeAlertLogic offer integrated log management services.

Custom Data and Cloud-Init on Microsoft Azure!!!!!!!!!

Posted on

Customers often ask how they can inject a script or other metadata into a Microsoft Azure virtual machine at provision time. In other clouds this concept is often referred to as user data. In Microsoft Azure we have a similar feature called custom data.

Custom data is sent to the VM along with the other provisioning configuration information such as the new hostname, username, password, certificates and keys, etc.  This data is passed to the Azure API as base64-encoded data.  On Windows this data ends up in%SYSTEMDRIVE%\AzureData\CustomData.bin as a binary file.  On Linux, this data is passed to the VM via the ovf-env.xml file, which is copied to the /var/lib/waagent directory during provisioning.  Newer versions of the Microsoft Azure Linux Agent will also copy the base64-encoded data to/var/lib/waagent/CustomData as well for convenience.

Microsoft extends its commitments to data privacy!!!!!!!!

Posted on

We recognize how critical data privacy is to enabling our customers to move to the cloud, and Microsoft has been a pioneer in offering privacy protections for its enterprise cloud services. We were the first to offer contractual commitments for customers subject to the E.U. Data Protection Directive and U.S. HIPAA laws, which call for safeguarding personal data, and have continued to strengthen data privacy through technical, operational and legal protections. Most recently, we have taken a number of steps to further bolster data privacy for our customers, including:

  • European Union Approval.
  • Expanded Contractual Scope.
